An Art Deco Chicago Wedding Wish

On June 6, 2019, Rachel and Alvie stood before family and friends at Chicago’s picturesque River Roast Social House to renew their vows and pay homage to a love that has been tested by sickness and pain.

Rachel and Alvie first met in 2013 while out on the town with friends. While it was their similar heights (he’s 6’7, she’s 6’6’) that first drew them together, they began chatting, immediately hit it off and soon started dating.

In 2013, the couple was faced with their first major challenge. Alvie suffered an unexpected brain aneurism that ruptured and nearly took his life. After a long recovery, the couple became pregnant with their first child and decided that it was time to make it official. They were married in a small ceremony and began their married life together.

Just four years after saying “I do” and also celebrating the birth of their second child, Rachel began to experience some unexplained rib pain. She had been coughing for months and was having trouble carrying their young baby around. By March of the following year, the pain was so unbearable that she decided to have it checked out. Much to their dismay, the scans revealed an aggressive form of breast cancer that had spread to her bones.

Over the course of the past year, Rachel has undergone a variety of ongoing treatments, including hormone blockers, chemotherapy, radiation and laser treatments. She is trying her best to remain joyful and optimistic while caring for two young children.

Wish Upon a Wedding was honored to grant this wish for Rachel and Alvie and could not be more grateful for all of the incredible vendors who lined up to help. From start to finish, the day was an art deco lovers’ dream. From the dramatic floral art instillation, to the hand-painted black and gold cake, dramatic table scape and undeniably romantic city backdrop, every single detail was perfect.

Rachel and Alvie exchanged vows in a beautiful and emotional ceremony and spent the day mingling with friends, dining on a gourmet brunch and dancing with their sweet children.

We cannot say thank you enough to our wish granters – your generosity means the world to us.
