An Orlando Love Story

An Orlando Love Story

Erik and Denise first met at a concert through Erik’s best friend. While at the concert, they flirted and bonded over their mutual love of music. Soon, the couple started dating and quickly fell in love. Three years into their dating relationship, they found out that they were expecting a child. They were married in a small, intimate ceremony and nine months later, welcomed their daughter into the world. Throughout their 25-year marriage, Denise and Erik have weathered a lot of storms, including layoffs, sick parents, moves and new beginnings. Throughout them all, however, their love for one another has only grown.

A couple of years ago, Denise had an accidental fall in her kitchen, which resulted in a collapsed lung and five days in the hospital. After recovering from her fall, she continued to feel lousy and often experienced pain and fatigue. Finally, she decided to have her lungs scanned again to assess whether or not she was healed. Much to her dismay, the scan revealed a large amount of spots on her good lung. Further testing revealed the worst. She was diagnosed with lung cancer. She underwent a rigorous chemotherapy and radiation treatment plan and is now doing immunotherapy. Denise and Erik are trying to maintain a positive attitude and are taking life one day at a time.

Wish Upon a Wedding has loved getting to know this music loving, super sweet couple and cannot wait to grant their wish for a vow renewal.

Danielle and Brandon first met when they were just 14 years old and became friends but did not starting dating until they were 20. Once they got together though, they quickly fell in love and became engaged. Although their family and friends doubted their decision, Danielle and Brandon were married in a quiet court house ceremony on March 17, 2008 and have spent the last 11 years falling more deeply in love. Throughout the years, the couple’s vow to love each other in sickness and in health has been repeatedly put to the test.  Starting at around age 26, Danielle began experiencing chronic pain issues in her back and hips. In 2015 she discovered an apricot sized lump in her breast but was told that it was benign. Two years later, an MRI revealed a growth in her hip which sadly turned out to be stage 4 breast cancer. Unfortunately, by the time her cancer was discovered, it had advanced considerably. She underwent aggressive chemotherapy for five months but has continued to steadily decline in health. Despite the pain, sickness, and exhaustion she battles on a daily basis, Danielle and Brandon are trying their best to remain hopeful and to savor each moment they have left together. Wish Upon a Wedding fell in love with this beautiful couple and was truly honored to grant their wish for a vow renewal.

Rachel and Alvie first met at a dive bar in 2006. They immediately noticed each other because of their height (she’s 6’6’, he’s 6’7’). He walked over and introduced himself and the two chatted for a while. Two days later, Alvie called Rachel and they immediately hit it off and began a long, committed relationship. In 2013, Alvie had a brain aneurism that ruptured and he nearly died. It was a wakeup call for the couple. After Alvie recovered, they became pregnant with their first child and decided to finally get married. In 2017, shortly after the birth of their second child, Rachel started to have some rib pain and was having trouble carrying her baby around. She had been coughing for months and was beginning to feel worried. By March of 2018, her pain was so unbearable that she went to get checked out. Her scans revealed that she had an aggressive form of breast cancer that had spread to her bones. She has spent the past year receiving a variety of ongoing treatments, including hormone blockers, chemotherapy, radiation and laser treatments. Wish Upon a Wedding was thrilled to grant Rachel and Alvie’s wish for a vow renewal and to celebrate a love that has conquered so much.

Brook and Mike first met online last year. After chatting for a while, Brook had to have a very hard conversation with Mike. She told him that she had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. Mike wasn’t scared and told her that he was sticking around. They quickly fell in love and got engaged. After fighting through several rounds of failed treatments, Brook made the hard decision to switch to palliative care.

Wish Upon a Wedding fell for this couple from day one. We lined up an amazing team of wish granters and simply loved granting them the wedding of their dreams.

Sharn and Anthony first met online a couple of years ago. They were both starting over, with children in tow and were looking to find love again. After chatting for a while online and over the phone, the couple decided to meet. From day one, Sharn was struck by what a true gentleman Anthony was. They went on a couple of wonderful dates and soon became inseparable. They got engaged on May 19th and were excited to start planning their wedding when they received some terrible news. Sharn’s routine mammogram that August turned out to be irregular. She was diagnosed with breast cancer and over the next few months endured a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation.

An Ohio Love Story

Courtney and Theresa (Tess) first met online just over five years ago. They wrote to each other for three months before deciding to meet in person. At the time, Courtney lived in Wisconsin, so Tess drove there from OH to meet. The meeting went so well that she decided to stay, for good. After living in Wisconsin for a while, the couple moved back to OH to care for Tess’s ailing mother. It was around that time that Tess began to experience some troubling health problems of her own.

After being hospitalized for a very painful kidney stone just last spring, a CT scan of her kidney revealed nodules on her lungs. Under the advisement of her doctor, Tess underwent some extensive testing, including a mammogram. Sadly, she was diagnosed with stage four triple positive breast cancer that had spread to her bones. She has endured an extensive amount of treatments, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation and continues to fight for her life, with Courtney always by her side. Wish Upon a Wedding has loved getting to know these sweet ladies and cannot wait to grant their life-long wish for a wedding.

Kerry and Kiernon first met when they were home from college on a break. They fell in love and ended up getting married just 10 months later. Two months into their marriage, Kerry unexpectedly collapsed while on the treadmill at the gym. She went into cardiac arrest and was air lifted to a near by hospital where she was diagnosed with a very serious heart condition. She underwent a surgery to have a defibrillator implanted. Over the next 18 years, they had four beautiful children and Kerry was able to manage her heart condition fairly well until having another massive heart episode.  Six months later, it happened again and her condition began to rapidly worsen. She was put on a list for a heart transplant and got the call on September 12, 2017. During her surgery, she suffered major complications, which resulted in a stroke. She spent seven weeks in the hospital and countless months in rehab learning how to do everything again. Throughout it all, Kiernon has been her rock.

We have loved meeting and getting to know Kerry and Kiernon and were honored to grant their wish for a vow renewal.
