A Tribute to steve

On December 13, 2022, Shelly and Steve gathered before friends and family to renew their vows. From start to finish, it was a wish that we will never forget.

Shelly and Steve first met more than 10 years ago. They had been working at the same restaurant when Shelly fell on hard times. She and her children needed a place to live and had nowhere to go. Although they barely knew each other, Steve offered his home to them for free. He slept on the couch for months while they stayed in his bedroom. Once Shelly was able to get on her feet, she moved out and they remained good friends.

A few months later, Steve asked her out on a date. They went to dinner and a movie and sparks flew. They started dating and were engaged two years later. They were married soon after and welcomed a baby together.

Life was good and they spent the next few years enjoying their beautiful, blended family. Last fall, Steve started experiencing sudden weight loss, coupled with extreme fatigue. He was not acting like his usual spunky self and Shelly started to worry. Before long, he started experiencing frequent vomiting. He went to the emergency room where a cat scan revealed the worst.

He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his liver, pancreas, and stomach lining. He underwent aggressive chemotherapy to try to slow the progression of his cancer, but it continued to progress. Steve passed away in his sleep just hours after his gorgeous vow renewal to Shelly.

We fell in love with this wonderful couple and were honored to help them renew their vows. We teamed up with Above the Rest Events and are forever indebted to them for the day that they created.

For the wish granting team, it was a day to witness a heartbreakingly beautiful love story and to lavish love on a couple that truly deserved it. For the attendees, it was a day to celebrate a good man and to say goodbye to a friend, a daddy and a husband. Our hearts go out to Shelly and their sweet kids as they continue to grieve Steve’s loss.
