A Philadelphia Love Story

On November 3, 2019, Maria and Jason will stand before their children, family and friends to recommit their lives to one another.

Maria and Jason first met through a friend in 2004. They hit it off instantly and began seriously dating. Maria is Columbian and her visa unfortunately expired just three months into their relationship, forcing her to return to Columbia. While the long distance might have been a deal breaker for some couples, it brought Jason and Maria closer and solidified their desire to be together. While Maria began the process of getting a new visa, the two talked as often as possible and set aside time for Jason to come visit on multiple occasions.

Jason’s proposed to Maria during one of his visits in 2005 and they made plans to get married  once Maria’s visa came through. Finally, after two years of waiting, she was granted a visa in August of 2006 and moved back stateside to be near Jason. They were married in October and began their life together.

Over the course of the next few years, Jason and Maria started a family and were blessed with two sons. In the beginning of 2015, Maria went in for her first mammogram. She had noticed a change in one of her breasts and was anxious to have it checked out. The scan revealed a mass and a biopsy confirmed the news that she had been dreading. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. She underwent a mastectomy in March of 2015, followed by chemotherapy and radiation.

This past spring, Maria began to experience some troublesome coughing. She went in for scans and was sadly told that the cancer had moved to her lungs and liver. She has continued treatment and is working with her doctors to try to stop the progression of her disease. The couple is looking forward to renewing their vows in front of their sweet boys and to celebrating their love with their family and friends who have supported them on this journey.

We’ve loved getting to know this precious couple and are thrilled to grant their wish for a vow renewal. We found an amazing friend in Ticia of The Calla Lily Event Planning who has lined up an incredible team of wish granters.
