In Memory of Josh

While our organization certainly has a lot to celebrate on a daily basis, we see our fair share of hard days. Today was one of them. We learned this morning that our soon-to-be wish recipient, Josh, passed away, less than a week before his wish was set to take place. Our hearts go out to his sweet fiancé, Nikkey and their beautiful children as they mourn this incredible loss.

Josh and Nikkey first met several years ago while working at a hospital cafeteria. They were instantly drawn to each other and quickly became friends. They soon began hanging out regularly and started dating a year later. Josh fell for Nikkey’s daughter and the couple soon began thinking of expanding their family. In October of 2018 they were blessed with a baby boy. Just a few months later, Josh proposed to Nikkey on a family vacation and they started planning their big day.

Unfortunately, when their baby was just six months old, their lives took a drastic turn. Josh had just recently turned 30 years old and was experiencing some troubling health concerns. He began having extreme back pain and did not feel right. When he went to get checked out, his doctor discovered a very concerning testicular tumor. He underwent a battery of tests and was sadly diagnosed with stage four testicular cancer that had spread to his stomach and lungs.

Josh immediately underwent surgery and began an incredibly aggressive chemotherapy schedule. Sadly, he lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 13th, 2020. To his family and friends, he will always be remembered for his loving personality and his hopeful and positive attitude. He was an amazing dad and loved Nikkey fiercely.

We were so lucky to have met Josh and Nikkey and are heartbroken that we will not be able to make their wedding wish come true. We are eternally grateful to the generous crew that we assembled for this wish and cannot thank them enough for their creativity, kindness and willingness to go above and beyond – especially during these uncertain times.

Thank you sweet friends,
