A Mississippi Love Story

On November 14, 2021, Shari and Cornell will stand before their family and friends to unite their lives in marriage. As with all the love stories that we are privileged to play a role in, Shari and Cornell’s journey has not been easy. While they were both battling sickness and struggle, they were blessed to find each other.

Shari and Cornell met online a year and a half ago. While getting to know one another, they discovered that they had a lot in common. Both Shari and Cornell were battling cancer. They found comfort`in their shared experiences and soon fell in love. They were engaged this past June and are anxious to begin their life together as husband and wife.

Shari’s medical issues began in 2016 when she accidentally slipped on a pencil at the high school where she works. The fall resulted in a series of bizarre and incredibly painful side effects that landed her in the hospital for four months, at times, clinging to life. Incredibly, she was unable to walk for a full year. Once she had semi-recovered from her fall and was starting to regain some normalcy, she discovered a lump in her breast. A mammogram later revealed that she had breast cancer. She underwent 6 months of chemotherapy, followed by a double mastectomy, radiation and a hysterectomy.

Cornell’s cancer journey began at the end of 2018. He had begun experiencing some troubling digestive issues, which led to shortness of breath and eventually, yellowing of his eyes. It was at this point, that he went to the ER. Scans revealed a concerning mass near his pancreas. A biopsy confirmed the worst. Cornell was diagnosed with a very rare form of cancer. He underwent a surgery to implant a stint and a port and endured an aggressive chemotherapy regiment. Sadly, his cancer returned and has now spread to his liver.

We feel honored to have met this beautiful couple and cannot wait to make their wish of a wedding come true. We’ve brought a fantastic wedding planner on board in Jean McGrury and are so thankful for the wonderful team that she has secured.
